Mangupura — Heavy rain triggered a landslide, flooding and strong currents at Eco Park Pelaga Glamping Retreat in Banjar Bukit Munduk Tiying, Pelaga, Petang, Badung, on Sunday night, Nov. 1. Three villas were swept away or damaged, two occupants were reported missing and 21 others were evacuated.

The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. The two missing occupants were identified as one foreign national whose identity was still being verified and one Indonesian national, Bangkit Mubarok. At the time of the reports, both remained the subject of a search operation.

Why the Pelaga disaster matters to visitors

The incident highlights the risks that severe rain and unstable terrain can pose at hillside accommodation in Badung. For foreign visitors, the reports indicate that six foreign nationals were among 23 guests staying at the site, while 21 people were evacuated. The reports do not identify the missing foreign national.

Emergency teams from the disaster agency, firefighters, the Indonesian military and police, Petang district officials, the National Search and Rescue Agency, police search-and-rescue personnel, the Mobile Brigade and the Indonesian Red Cross were involved in the response. Access to the retreat was hindered by landslide debris, complicating the movement of rescuers and equipment.

The search was suspended at 2:45 a.m. because darkness and conditions posed risks to responders. Bali disaster officials said it was planned to resume at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, while rain continued around the site.
