Klungkung — Museum Semarajaya will close throughout November and December 2026 while its exhibition displays undergo a major redesign. The closure affects the museum’s entire premises and begins in November.

The revitalization is focused on reorganizing the collection displays rather than changing the structure of the heritage-listed building. The project is intended to improve the flow of the exhibition, lighting and presentation so the rooms appear more spacious, orderly and informative.

The work is funded through the central government budget via the Bali Regional Cultural Preservation Agency, known as BPK Wilayah Bali. The exhibition redesign has been completed and is ready for implementation, according to the report.

Why the closure matters to visitors

For visitors planning a cultural trip to Klungkung, the museum will not be available during the two-month work period. The closure applies to all rooms, with the museum’s management saying that the entire area will be shut so construction activity does not disrupt visitors.

Museum Semarajaya holds collections connected with Klungkung’s history and culture. The redesign will address older display cases, including by rearranging or replacing cases that take up too much room. New lighting and revised presentation arrangements are also part of the work.

The revitalization is scheduled to run from November through December 2026. The museum’s management hopes to resume welcoming tourists after the project is finished, but the report does not state a specific reopening date.

The planned closure therefore covers the full period of the redesign, rather than selected rooms or individual exhibition areas. Visitors seeking access to the museum should account for the November and December schedule when planning cultural visits to Klungkung. The project remains centered on the presentation of the collections, while the heritage-listed building itself is not being structurally changed.
