Klungkung — The Akah customary village in Klungkung began a ceremony series on Oct. 7, 2026, involving Pura Desa, Pura Puseh and Pura Dalem. The simultaneous observance is the first at the three temples since 1989, with its peak scheduled for Oct. 19, 2026.

The series is part of the Karya Pamungkah Tawur Agung and includes several rituals centered on the three temples in Akah. The observance follows restoration work at the temples and marks the return of a ceremony that residents had last held 37 years earlier.

Why the Akah ceremony matters

For visitors and foreign residents in Bali, the event illustrates the continuing role of customary villages in organizing major religious observances. The ceremony is concentrated in Akah, in Klungkung, rather than being a provincewide regulation or a change to access rules for visitors. The reported schedule identifies Oct. 19 as the peak of the series.

The ceremony includes Karya Mamungkah, Tawur Agung, Ngubung, Pedagingan, Ngenteg Linggih, Pedudusan Agung and Ngusaba Desa. The rituals are centered on Pura Desa, Pura Puseh and Pura Dalem in Desa Adat Akah. The village has six banjar and four temples; one temple had previously undergone restoration and its ceremony, while this year's series covers the other three together.

The three-temple ceremony last took place in 1989. The reports describe the restoration and ceremony as requiring funding in the billions of rupiah, supported by local government assistance and offerings from customary community members.
