Denpasar — The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) office in Denpasar warned of very high waves measuring 4–6 metres in the southern Lombok Strait from Oct. 8 to Oct. 11, 2026. Waves of 2.5–4 metres were also forecast in southern Bali waters and the Badung Strait.
The warning covers maritime conditions that may affect vessels and coastal activity. BMKG also forecast coastal flooding from Oct. 9 to Oct. 18, 2026, along parts of southern Bali, including the coasts of Jembrana, Tabanan, Badung, Denpasar, Gianyar and Klungkung.
Why it matters for Bali visitors and residents
For foreign visitors and residents, the forecast means that sea crossings, boating, fishing and other coastal activities may face hazardous conditions during the stated periods. The warning distinguishes between areas: the southern Lombok Strait has the highest forecast range, while southern Bali waters and the Badung Strait face waves of 2.5–4 metres. Northern Bali waters, the southern Bali Strait and the northern Lombok Strait were forecast to have waves of 1.25–2.5 metres.
BMKG is Indonesia’s national agency responsible for meteorology, climatology and geophysics. Its coastal-flooding notice links the risk to high sea levels around the new-moon phase on Oct. 10, 2026. The identified flooding areas include southern Jembrana, southern Tabanan, Badung, Denpasar, Gianyar and southern Klungkung.
The forecast period for very high waves ends Oct. 11, while the coastal-flooding risk continues through Oct. 18. The reports do not state any closure or additional operational measure.
