Gianyar — On Oct. 21, 2026, Bedulu village officials reported that 77 modern teba units had been built as an initial source-based program for treating household organic waste in Bedulu, Blahbatuh, Gianyar.

The units are intended to process organic waste where it is generated, reducing the volume sent into the surrounding environment. The project was financed through tax-sharing funds from the Gianyar Regency Government, according to Balipost.

Why 77 modern teba units matter in Bedulu

For residents, the system places part of household waste management at the home or community source rather than relying only on collection and disposal. The concrete units use a one-meter diameter ring and are dug to a depth of 1.5 meters. Their covers have openings through which residents can place household organic waste.

The report said fermentation inside the units produces natural compost that residents can use in household gardens. That gives the program an environmental purpose as well as a practical benefit for food-growing areas, while limiting the amount of organic material discarded elsewhere.

The development follows an earlier village waste-management effort. A December 2025 report said Bedulu had adopted Village Regulation No. 3 of 2025, effective Jan. 1, 2026, and had planned funding for modern teba units.

Bedulu is also operating a TPS 3R facility near Tukad Beji and using surveillance cameras to deter illegal dumping, according to the candidate report. TPS 3R is an Indonesian waste facility based on reducing, reusing and recycling waste.
