Denpasar — France recorded 41,937 direct tourist arrivals in Bali in August 2026, a 20.42% increase from July that moved the country into third place among the island’s foreign markets for the month.

The newly reported figures, recorded by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Bali, put France ahead of India and behind Australia and China. The increase came as Bali tracked changing demand across its principal overseas markets during the European summer.

France became Bali’s third-largest foreign market in August

For foreign visitors, the figures indicate a stronger French presence in Bali during August, but they describe arrivals rather than the number of unique people staying on the island. The data also measure direct arrivals to Bali, making them relevant to the island’s international tourism performance without showing how long visitors stayed or how much they spent.

France’s August total rose from 34,826 visits in July to 41,937 in August 2026. India recorded 34,837 visits in August, leaving France in third place for that month. Australia led the ranking with 161,258 arrivals, followed by China with 47,613.

Bali received 685,994 foreign visitors in August 2026, a slight 1.69% decline from the previous month. That broader result places France’s increase in a mixed monthly picture: the French market expanded while overall arrivals softened.

Statistics Indonesia, known in Indonesia as Badan Pusat Statistik, is the national statistics agency responsible for compiling the arrival data. The reports attribute the August figures to BPS Bali and identify Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan, head of BPS Bali, in connection with the reported French increase.
